Cardinal Caterina Sforza, the Duchess of Milian, was born to Pope Gregory XXX and an unnamed mother in the year of 3036Ad. Much of her early life is left undocumented. But in a series of unfortunate events-- her childhood is disrupted by the Rosencreuz Orden. At an age of ten, her mother and a good portion of her family is slaughtered and in an attempt to flee from the assassins Caterina escaped into the underground chambers of Rome. It is here she met and is saved by Abel, a strange Crusnic who had she later learns had been mourning the death of Lilith Sahl. Caterina is reluctant to trust him at first- but his vows to protect humans and continue Lilith's legacy move her deeply; even as young as she is at the time.
The rest of Caterina's youth is spent under the unloving care of her uncle, Alfonso d'Este, who is majorly unsympathetic to the whole event she has suffered and indifferent to her survival. He is strict in raising her into the role of nobility, yet seems to care only for how well she preforms in the political spotlight. Notably, there are no attempts are made on her life during this period. Although that is likely due to the ever lingering presence of Abel- who fills in the gaps lacking affection and guidance in her life. He becomes her closest confidant.
On her nineteenth birthday, she claims her title of Duchess of Milian- and breaks free of her Uncle's control for the final time. Filled with purpose and determination, Caterina's political career only proceeds to soar. The title of Cardinal is welcomed at the age of twenty one, and she joins her half-brother Francesco in governance of the Church. It does not take her long to become head of the Ministry of Holy Affairs, and to found the department's special operations group, the AX Agency.
During the founding of AX, Pope Gregorio XXX is murdered. Although there is little time for morning the death of her father. She and Francesco successful elect their younger brother, Alessandro, to be the 399th Pope of Rome. Although this mutual agreement is likely for different reasons.
Caterina holds a deep motivation to forge peace with the New Human Empire, and desires a dangerous co-existence with vampires. She is willing to sacrifice everything to see this peace forged. Even her own life.
